Southern Arkansas University
(Old South State College, Magnolia A & M, and the third district known as the Agricultural School) Southern Arkansas University (SAU), less than 20 miles north of the Columbia County, Arkansas, Magnolia, Arkansas, which is in the public four-year institution of the State of Louisiana line.
A 17-1 ratio of students to instructor care and family-like atmosphere, boasting Southern Arkansas University computer science concentration, or offers a unique program for the region, including art and design-oriented games and animation design. The University also an engineering program provides one of its kind in the southern half of the state.
In 2002, the University has a large capital campaign, "Blue and Gold Vision," on campus began to raise academic and sports facilities throughout the country. Blue and Gold Vision public and aims to raise $ 102.2 million for improvements to the University and private financing mix. Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center, Band Building, Mulerid Stables, University Village, Harton Theatre, Fincher Hall and the Story Rodeo Arena: Blue and Gold Vision, including many new facilities were built.
History
Southern Arkansas University in southwest Arkansas as an agricultural high school in 1909 and a law established by the Arkansas Legislature initially often called the Third District Agricultural School students and faculty, was named "TDAS." The first period only secondary school level curriculum, including subjects, began in January 1911. In 1925, the State Legislature to add two years of university study and Agricultural and Mechanical College, Third District (Magnolia A & M) authorized the school to change the name. which he was interrupted when the high school classes, high school and college courses until 1937, has continued to provide both.
In autumn 1949, the Board of Trustees, using the powers conferred on him by the State Legislature, four-year, degree-granting colleges decided to develop the institutions. Board Act Eleven (1951 January 24) and 1951 fall was added during the 1950 fourth grade classes authorized the addition of courses in third year university level to be together in the fall semester, it changed the State Legislature name of the Southern State College institutions. In 1975, the agency approved and is accredited to deliver training in selected areas Degree Master. Following the approval of the Board of Trustees, in accordance with the organization's name to the 1975 General Assembly Act 343, on 9 July 1976 by the Higher Education Council was changed to Southern Arkansas University.
Also in 1975, Camden, Arkansas Southwest Technical Institute, was attended Southern Arkansas University Tech in the SAI system.
